New U.S. Citizen Cast His First Vote

Pablo Varela, a native of Mexico, became a U.S. citizen on November 1, 2013, and voted in his first election in March.  When asked why he wanted to become a U.S. citizen, Mr. Varela responded, “I wanted to be able to vote.  It’s important for me because I have lived here many many years with my wife, Virginia.  I like the country.  I go to Mexico to see my family but I just stay a couple weeks, because I want to be with my wife here.”swearing in 2013Varela
