Frank D. Beck

Frank D. Beck is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Illinois State University. His expertise is in community development and he currently researches the racialized criminal justice system. As director of the Stevenson Center at Illinois State University, Beck’s classes conducted applied research for the Immigration Project and BN Welcoming. He is the son of an immigrant, with his father coming to the United States at the age five or six, and becoming naturalized at age eighteen. Frank acknowledges that he enjoys many privileges, simply because he was born to a US citizen. He is not surprised that others want the same privileges as he enjoys, and feels that everyone can play a role in helping immigrants to access these privileges.
