Mercy Chepkosgei Kiprop began working at The Immigration Project in October of 2021. She was born and raised in Kenya where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Community Development and a Master’s degree in Project Planning and Management. She is currently attending Illinois State University in order to get a second Master’s degree in Sociology.

Mercy started working at TIP because as an international student in the US, she strived to help other international students transition easily into a new culture by showing them around and introducing them to domestic students. She is passionate about helping people overcome personal, social, and economic issues, and is glad to have learned about TIP and its commitment to serving the immigrant community. TIP also offers her a platform to make a positive and lasting contribution to volunteers and interns.

By being a part of the team at TIP, she hopes to learn more about the legal aspect of the American immigration system to inspire and empower immigrants like herself. She also hopes to work with the social services team to help provide immigrants with vital resources and opportunities to build their lives here in the US.

She is currently learning Spanish to not only expose herself to new cultural practices and unique aspects connected to the language but also to effectively expand the number of and kind of people with which she can connect with.

In her free time, Mercy has traveled to many places in the US, such as Washington DC, Missouri, Tennessee, Ohio, and Michigan in search of Kenyan (East African food) restaurants and to widen her exposure to American culture.
