PhD student Abigail E. Houkes was asked about her work with The Immigration Project while participating in the Summer Bridge program at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
During her time with TIP, Abigail specialized in information. She created an internal training program at TIP for new caseworkers, volunteers, and interns. Equally important, she created materials that explained public benefits access. She designed these materials with immigrant households in mind. They explain eligibility and application processes of various programs in IDHS.
Thank you, Abigail, for helping us to empower immigrant families as they navigate the complex benefits system. We’re grateful for your work with us through the Summer Bridge Program!
